Interpretation Quarter-Final 1

St Peter’s Church, St Peter’s Street, St Albans AL1 3HG

The biennial St Albans International Organ Competitions celebrate 60 years since their foundation in 1963 by Peter Hurford. Outstanding organists aged 33 and under from across the world will compete for Interpretation and Improvisation prizes.

A Presentation of Awards and Prize-Winners’ Recital on Saturday 15th July at 11am in the Cathedral will bring the 60th anniversary competitions to a conclusion.

This Quarter-Final round will be played on the Mander organ of St Peter’s Church. Each competitor will perform JS Bach’s Prelude and Fugue in A minor BWV 543, and other music by JS Bach of their own choice. These performances will decide the winner of the Peter Hurford Bach Prize of £1000, named after the Competition’s founder and donated by Mrs Elisabeth Wells.
